But the technologies to change that already exist \u2014\u00a0and they\u2019re electric.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The many benefits of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ehpa.org\/policy\/industrial-heat-pumps\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">electrifying industrial heat<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, from cutting emissions to strengthening competitiveness and driving Europe\u2019s net zero transformation, were the focus of EHPA\u2019s most recent webinar. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7406e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-video\" data-id=\"e7406e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;youtube_url&quot;:&quot;https:\\\/\\\/www.youtube.com\\\/watch?v=NuHBopd3YVI&quot;,&quot;video_type&quot;:&quot;youtube&quot;,&quot;controls&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"video.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-wrapper elementor-open-inline\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-video\"><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b90833b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b90833b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ehpa.org\/all-events\/watts-next-webinar-the-shift-to-an-electric-and-efficient-net-zero-industry\/\">Watt\u2019s next: a shift to an electric and efficient net zero industry<\/a>\u201d was co-organised with the\u202fKnowledge Centre on Organic Rankine Cycle technology (KCORC)\u202fand the\u202fEuropean Climate Foundation (ECF)\u202f. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Christian Noll<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, from the German energy efficiency organisation, opened with a powerful message:\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cEfficient process heating is the missing puzzle piece of industrial decarbonisation.\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">He highlighted that\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">75% of industrial emissions come from heat use<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fand that halving energy demand <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">could save companies<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> billions each year, with savings estimated to top <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deneff.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/HSNR2024-Kurzstudie-Prozesswaerme.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u20ac21<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> billion<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> in Germany alone.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">His call for stronger policy action\u00a0 \u2013 including embedding the\u202fEU\u2019s \u2018<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Energy Efficiency First\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fprinciple \u2013 set the tone for the discussion.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Prof. Piero Colonna,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202ffrom Dutch university TU Delft and KCORC, introduced\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fsystems, which capture waste heat from industrial processes and convert it into electricity. ORC helps recycle heat, turning what we waste today into clean power for tomorrow, explained Colonna, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">announcing the upcoming release of the Knowledge Centre\u2019s new <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">guidelines for the installation of ORC systems as well. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Laura Alonso,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202ffrom the Spanish research institute Tecnalia and EU project <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ehpa.org\/projects\/smart-networks-integrating-renewable-and-waste-energy-sources\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">PUSH2HEAT<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which sees EHPA among its partners, presented real-world EU pilot sites where\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">high-temperature heat pumps<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fare replacing fossil fuel boilers in paper and chemical plants, saving hundreds of tonnes of CO<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2082<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> annually across Germany and Italy.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Meanwhile,\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Roberto Bertanzi,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202ffrom the industrial heat pump manufacturer Turboden, showcased the energy-intensive\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ORi Martin steel mill<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fin Italy, where an integrated\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ORC and large heat pump system<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202frecovers exhaust heat to supply district heating and renewable power, avoiding around\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">1,000 tonnes of CO<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2082<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> emissions each year<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The key message is clear, and was summarised by EHPA director general Paul Kenny in his closing remarks:\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">industrial electrification is no longer a future vision; it\u2019s a proven solution, <\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">connecting the dots between innovation, policy and new EU funding opportunities like\u00a0the first pilot auction for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/climate.ec.europa.eu\/news-other-reads\/news\/commission-publishes-terms-and-conditions-first-pilot-auction-industrial-heat-decarbonisation-budget-2025-10-10_en\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">industrial heat decarbonisation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, and the need for bold industry action.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">With the upcoming\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energy.ec.europa.eu\/news\/have-your-say-eus-electrification-action-plan-and-heating-and-cooling-strategy-2025-08-28_en\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">EU Electrification Action Plan<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fand\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Heating &amp; Cooling Strategy<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Europe has a unique opportunity to scale these technologies, reduce energy costs and make efficient, fossil-free manufacturing the new industrial standard.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Curious to know more about industrial electrification?
