This is largely due to those governments having\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">stabilised subsidy schemes<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">taken action on costs,\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">for example by reducing tax on power bills. This makes heat pumps \u2013 which use a small amount of electricity \u2013 highly competitive with fossil fuel boilers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">For example, in\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Belgium\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">a combination of\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">new restrictions on fossil fuel heating<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and a\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">VAT reduction on heat pumps<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0in new buildings has helped an increase of 7% to 111,000 units.
